Questions You Should Ask
Your Disc Jockey

(If you choose not to hire “Let’s Dance” Music Service)

Q Is your DJs music licensed through any copyright agency?

A. All DJ companies in Canada and USA must be licensed. If the DJ is not licensed a representative of a copyright agency may come to your event and if the DJ is not licensed he/she will be fined. The representative will not stop the DJ from playing music but it will put him/her in a bad mood for the rest of the event. Ask to see your DJs up to date license before you book your DJ.

Q. Why is your price higher or lower than the other DJ companies?

A. A higher priced DJ company is not necessary the best way to go. DON’T BE FOOLED! When you book a higher priced DJ Company you mostly pay for the name. Their focus is on quantity and not quality that they hire DJs with little or no experience. If the DJ charges a very low amount he/she is probably a fly by night DJ that only plays once in awhile. He/ she will probably not have much of a music selection and out of date equipment.

Q. Do you provide written contracts for your events?

A. A professional DJ should and will provide a written contract. All the information should be on the contract like: cost of event, deposit received, first dance, location, time and couples names. And any special requests. And he/she will give you a receipt at the end of your event.

Q. Do you take requests?

A. A professional DJ will welcome requests from the couple and their guests. Request cards should be placed on each table to allow the guests to write down requests and hand them to the DJ.

Q. Do you provide back up DJs and equipment?

A. A professional DJ company will have back up DJs and equipment. If the DJ Company you are hiring is a small company (1-4 DJs) make sure they have back up DJs and equipment. If your event is out of town make sure he/she brings back up equipment.

Q. How many years of experience does he/she have?

A. A good DJ should have a least five years experience. Make sure your DJ has played all kinds of events like weddings, parties, socials, beer gardens, children s’ parties and old time dances.
A DJ that plays in nightclubs may not be best suited for your event. Make sure your DJ has plenty of references, Dating back as much as five years. Keep away from wedding halls that supply their own DJs. In most wedding halls the DJ has a play list, What he /she can and can’t play monitored by the Hall manager. Or the DJ is a relative or friend of the owner.

Q. Does your DJ Company provide a meeting with you and your DJ before your event?

A. A professional DJ company will set up a meeting with your DJ, That way you talk to your DJ directly. With larger DJ companies you usually deal with the secretary or the manager, Than the information is passed on to your DJ just days before your event. A larger DJ company can not guarantee the availability of a certain DJ. There for you may end up with a inexperienced DJ at your event. With a smaller DJ company you have a better guarantee that the DJ you requested will be at your event.

Q. Does your DJ drink on the job?

A. A professional DJ will NOT drink on the job.

Q. Should we feed the Disc Jockey at our event?

A. Yes. Remember your Disc Jockey is usually the first one to arrive and the last one to leave. For an event that is seven hours or more (6pm-1am) your Disc Jockey is there 1 ½ hours before to set up the equipment and do a sound check, and 1 hour after 1 am to pack up. With no breaks or time for the entire night to go out for dinner.

If your DJ Company does not answer to these questions, Please call “Let’s Dance”.
